HEPA stands for “High Efficiency Particulate Air” and is a specialist mechanical air filter specified to remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria or any other airborne particles with a size of 0.3 micron or larger.
These kind of filters became common place in the early 2000’s on household appliances such as vacuum cleaners but historically have been used in industry with heavy dust problems for many decades.
Like all filters these HEPA filters have a lifespan and should be replaced based on hours running. Due to the nature of the filter design cleaning should not be attempted as damage can easily be caused to the delecate filter media pores and as such Xtrct reccommends replacement at least every 12 months in a general operation environment.
